For the qualitative determination of total antibodies to Hepatitis A virus in human serum. This assay is indicated as an aid in the diagnosis of previous or ongoing Hepatitis A viral infection or in the identification of Hepatitis A virus -susceptible individuals for vaccination.

Methodology

Chemiluminescent Competitive Immunoassay

Reactive specimens will automatically reflex to the Hepatitis A IgM assay to determine if there is an ongoing or recent infection. Assay performance characteristics have not been established for immunocompromised or immunosuppressed patients, cord blood, neonatal specimens, infants, or children.

If reflex testing is not desired, call Rutland Regional Medical Center Laboratory Customer Service at 802-747-1771 to decline IgM testing.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Blood
Container/Tube: Gold top, serum gel

Specimen Volume: Full tube

Specimen Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Send specimen in original tube.

2. If pre-processing before sending to the Lab: Allow to clot 30 minutes, (but not longer than 24 hours), centrifuge, refrigerate and return to the Lab.

Refrigerated 24 hours in primary tube or 7 days if serum is poured off into a separate tube
