Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Vaginal or ectocervical
Container/Tube: Adeza Biomedical Specimen Collection Kit
Specimen Volume: Entire specimen
Collection Instructions:

1. Obtain specimen from posterior fornix of vagina or ectocervical region of external cervical os.

2. Insert polyester-tipped swab into vagina and lightly rotate across posterior fornix for approximately 10 seconds to absorb cervicovaginal secretions.

3. Withdraw swab carefully. Avoid contact with vaginal mucosa.

4. Insert swab into tube of buffer provided.

5. Break shaft (at score-line) even with top of tube. Align shaft with hole inside tube cap and push down tightly over shaft, sealing tube.

6. Label tube with patient’s name, age, sex, date and time of collection, gestational age, and if patient is symptomatic or asymptomatic.

Additional Information:

1. Specimen source is required.

2. Specimen that is not tested within 8 hours of collection must be stored refrigerated and tested within 48 hours of collection.

3. Avoid temperature extremes. Only 1 freeze/thaw cycle is acceptable.
