Gardnerella is an indicator organism of the condition Bacterial Vaginosis. While this organism can be present in normal vaginal specimens, only clinically significant concentrations of Gardnerella are detected by the Affirm VP III,. As with all laboratory tests, results should be evaluated with clinical signs and symptoms.

Methodology

Molecular Probe

Useful for diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis caused by Gardnerella vaginalis, Trichomonas vaginalis, and/or Candida species.

Call Rutland Regional Medical Center Laboratory Customer Service at 802-747-1771 to obtain BD Affirm VPIII Transport System.

 

Specimen must arrive within 72 hours of collection.
