Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Rectal and vaginal
- Container/Tube (Preferred): Starswab (See Microbiology collection guide)
- Collection Instructions:
- Insert swab(s) in vagina, and sample vaginal introitus
- Insert same swab(s) approximately 1 inch beyond anal sphincter. Gently rotate swab(s) to sample anal crypts. Feces should be evident on swab.

Normal Reference Ranges: Negative
Positives for Group B Strep automatically have susceptibilities performed if patient has Penicillin allergy.
