Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Whole blood

Container/Tube: Light-blue top (citrate)

Specimen Volume: Full tube

Specimen Minimum Volume: 2.7 mL

Collection Instructions: TUBE MUST BE FILLED TO LINE ON TUBE. (Do not under fill or overfill tube.) Send specimen in original tube.

Specimen Stability: 2 hours

Specimen Transport Temperature: Room temp

Specimen Transport Temperature

Must be centrifuged within 1 hour and plasma separated. Must be processed within 2 hours.

Reference Values

T0.5 IU/mL to 1 IU/mL for Q12h Therapeutic dose LMWH
1 IU/mL to 2 IU/mL for Q24h Therapeutic dose LMWH
0.2 IU/mL to 0.4 IU/mL for Prophylactic dose LMWH (sample obtained 4 to 6h following subcutaneous dosing)

Consider only in:

- Extremes of body weight (<50kg or >150kg)

- Renal insufficiency (CrCl < 30mL/min)

- Pregnancy

- Chronic therapy (>10days)
