For quantitative determination of intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) in blood. This panel includes Calcium, Phosphorus, and Creatinine. It is intended to be used to aid in the differential diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism, hypoparathyroidism, hypercalcemia and monitoring end-stage renal failure patients for possible renal osteodystrophy.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Green top Lithium Heparin AND Lavender EDTA whole blood

Container/Tube:  This test requires two tubes to be collected.

Lavender Top EDTA whole blood  AND

Light Green Top Lithium Heparin   

Specimen Volume:  Lavender EDTA Whole Blood: Full tube

                                Green Top Lithium Heparin: Full tube

Specimen Minimum Volume: 1ml Lavender EDTA whole blood; 2 mL Green Top Lithium Heparin.

Collection Instructions:  If there is a delay in transport of >1 hour, centrifuge tube Green Top Lithium Heparin.  DO NOT SPIN LAVENDER EDTA.

Reference Values

PTH: 18.4 – 88.0 pg/mL (Reference range is based on normal calcium levels.)

Calcium: 8.1 – 10.1 mg/dL

Phosphorus: 2.5 – 4.9 mg/dL

Creatinine: 0.6 – 1.3 mg/dL

PTH Reportable range: 6.3 – 2000 pg/mL
