Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Whole blood
Container/Tube: Serum

Preferred: Light-green top (lithium heparin gel)

Acceptable: Gold top, serum gel
Specimen Volume: Full tube
Specimen Minimum Volume: 2 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Send specimen in original tube.
2. If there is a delay in transport of >2 hour, centrifuge tube.

3. Refrigerate up to 7 days.

Adult (>18yo):

30 - 200 mg/dL

Note: For children under 18 years of age, haptoglobin has lower physiological serum concentrations and therefore is not suitable for hemolysis testing; no reference range will be applied to this group.
