Methodology

Manual

All body fluids include a WBC cell count.  Differential performed only if WBC count is ≥ 10 WBC's/mcl.

CSF includes the RBC count as well.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Body fluid
Container/Tube: Lavender top (EDTA)
Specimen Volume: 4 mL
Specimen Minimum Volume: 1 mL 

Collection Instructions: Invert several times to prevent clotting.

Additional Information: Indicate specimen source. Specimen is stable and acceptable up to 1 hour after collection at room temperature.
